Ginger Garden

The first impression people (especially in Asia) have about ginger, are the edible species used in cooking. The part that’s used in our diet is the underground stem (rhizome) of ginger. Members in the Zingiberales family are mostly aromatic perennial herbs with creeping horizontal or tuberous rhizomes. The species distributed in Taiwan belongs mainly to the genus of Alpinia. This garden has a great collection of Alpinia species from low elevation areas in Taiwan. Some other genera from abroad can also be found here.
