Palm Garden

The Palmae family includes around 2,300 species, most of which grow in the tropical or subtropical areas. They are all evergreen plants and known under different names in Chinese (ye, lu, zhong, or kui), but all as ‘palm’ ¬¬¬in English. Palm trees usually have a single branchless columnar trunk topped with a tuft of stout pinnate or palmate leaves. Coconut palm provides some basic necessities for human life such as oil, cooking or wine making materials, sugar, artistic collection, herbs, timber, furniture and handcraft materials. Their profiles range from thick, tall, skinny, straight, short, slender, stout to round which make them great materials for horticulture. There are about 60 species grown in this garden including Roystonea regia, Livistona chinensis, and Hyophorbe verschaffeltii. They can be found alongside the major routes in the garden.
